The welt cord is simply a fabric-covered cord that follows the seam of your cornice. It not only adds strength, it also creates a more finished, tailored look. The two types of welt cords are a self-welt and a contrasting welt. A self-welt is when the cord is created using the same fabric. (shown left)
A contrasting welt is when the cord is created using a complementary or contrasting cord. A contrasting welt is a great way to add both structure and style to the look of your window treatments. (shown left)
A variety of decorative trims are available to further customize many of our upholstered cornices. Choose from glass beads, ribbon banding, tassel fringe or many other styles. Our trim offerings have been carefully selected to match any of our fabrics from our fabric collection.
Enter the dimensions for your custom design in inches. When ordering your upholstered cornice we suggest planning to mount your cornice approximately 1 1/2" above the window opening or undertreatment. Take the width measurement of the opening or outside mounted treatment that cornice will be mounted over and add at least 1" to the width to provide operating clearance. When mounting over another window treatment, order clearance depth at least 1" greater than the "flush mount depth" of the undertreatment. Your upholstered cornice will arrive 2" wider than the ordered width due to the thickness of the cornice. Your ordered width will be the inside measurement of the cornice.
Inside mount cornices can be mounted over blinds or shades to cover the headrail, or molding of your window. The look is neat, clean and uncluttered. There will be a deduction of 1/4" off ordered width from the frame, and consider the thickness of selected fabric which can add from 1/8" to 1/4" to overall width.
Outside mount cornices will add substance to your windows. Cornices have a dustcap and returns that wrap to the wall. The backside and dustcap are covered in a white privacy lining, and cornices come standard with 1/2" welt cord along bottom edge.
For Inside Mount, your cornices will have no returns and the clearance of your dust cap is customizable from 2" - 8" deep.
Clearance depth refers to the amount of space between your wall and the back of your valance. This information is important when ordering cornices as Outside Mount over other window treatments, or to clear moulding. The available clearance varies by style. See below for a breakdown of clearance availability by style.
