We offer four levels of opacity (openness), ranging from 1% up to 10%. A low number means that the fabric is more tightly woven, which blocks more sun and allows less view-through to the outdoors. A higher number fabric is more loosely woven; glare is still controlled, though less heat is blocked, and there is more view-through. To choose, consider both your need to control light and to see your view. If it's very hot in your room during the summer, a 1% fabric is a good choice. If you don't get much direct sun, or want to preserve your view as much as possible, choose a 10% fabric. Want to balance seeing your view and blocking the sun? Choose 3% or 5% fabrics.
General tipsDimensions What's this
Use a metal measuring tape to ensure accuracy.Mounting inside window frame
Round down to the nearest 1/8".
Measure every window, even if they appear identical.
If you're measuring more than one window in a room, work from left to right and label every window.
Download a handy worksheet here.
Inside mounts provide a finished, built-in look, without covering the window molding. You need a minimum of 2" unobstructed mounting depth within your window frame (most product styles). If your frame isn't deep enough for the style you've chosen, use an outside mount.
Please note that inside mounted treatments will have a light gap; for Roller and Solar Shades, there will be a 5/8" - 7/8" gap on each side to accommodate the roller mechanism. Shade fabric will be 1-5/16" - 1-5/8" narrower than your ordered width. If you need maximum light control and privacy, consider an outside mount.
Your blind or shade will be made slightly smaller than the size you specify to allow operating clearance. Do not add to the size of your product for a tighter fit. If you do, it will not fit properly inside your window.
2. Measure the frame depth from the closed window, or any obstacle such as a window handle, crank or alarm sensor, to the edge.
Obstacles can interfere with your treatment's operation, and you may wish to consider an outside mount.Mounting outside window frame
Outside mounts can make a window appear larger. When windows are not square, or there is insufficient frame depth for inside mounting, an outside mount is recommended.
Please note that a minimum of 2" flat surface above the window or on the window frame is required for mounting brackets (most product styles).Download complete measure guide.

Inside Mount shades are contained within your window frame. You may prefer an Inside Mount as it provides a finished look without covering your molding; also allows more clearance to layer Drapery, or Valance over shades. Be sure to check your windows for "squareness", since Inside Mounted shades will not operate properly if windows are not "square."
Outside Mount shades are mounted on your wall or molding. Even if your windows have enough frame depth for Inside Mount, you may prefer the extra room darkening and privacy Outside Mount provides, since greater window coverage reduces light leak at shade edges.
Side Mount is useful when shades cannot be mounted to the top of the window frame.
Note: To accommodate the roller mechanism, your finished shade fabric will be 1-5/16" to 1-5/8" narrower than you specify on your order, causing a light gap with Inside or Side Mount. If you require maximum light control and privacy, we recommend Outside Mount.

Cordless Lift System eliminates lift cords for child safety; features slow rise system for smooth, controlled operation. Please note Minimum width is 19 1/2 inches wide. Maximum height for cordless lift will vary depending on fabric choice. For specific questions about size restrictions please contact customer care at 800-248-8888.
Motivia Wand A battery-powered wand is attached directly to the shade, and simply press a button to operate.
Motivia Remote Raise and lower an entire room of window treatments with a single remote. Individual shades are outfitted with battery-powered motors. One remote will operate up to 5 shades. Order the remote on the first shade. Select Motivia Remote without remote control for up to 4 more shades. If you want additional remotes, simply order them on the individual shades.
Battery Pack Wire The 10" wire will have the battery pack clipped to the headrail of the shade. The 48" battery wire allows you to mount the battery wand lower in the window, to make changing batteries easier. Perfect for very tall windows, or for situations where it's otherwise awkward to get to the top of the shade. You may mount the wand in the window frame as much as 4 feet below the top of the shade with this option.
Specify Left or Right for the control position. Consider furniture placement or other obstructions when making your selection.
Motivia Motorization Channel Each channel on our 5-channel Motivia remote controls an individual shade, or a group of shades. Simply select the channel you'd like to assign your shade to, and we'll pre-program the remote accordingly. To have a group of shades work from the same channel, select the same channel number while customizing your additional shades.
If you change your mind later, it's easy to re-assign channels. Simple instructions will arrive with your shade.
A valance conceals the control mechanism and will hide the shade when rolled up.
Deluxe Cassette* has an insert with matching shade fabric insert.
Smooth Cassette* has a smooth, slightly curved cover.
Metal Valance has a smooth, flat cover.
*Deluxe or Smooth Cassette valance is required for Motivia Wand control or 2on1 Headrail.
Standard Roll shades have the fabric rolling off the back of the shade.
Reverse Roll shades have the fabric rolling off the front of the shade. Not available with Deluxe Cassette, Smooth Cassette or Metal Valance.
Consider Reverse Roll for Blackout materials, prints or materials with a white backside to avoid seeing the back of material on roll.
Extension brackets are used for outside mount installation requiring additional clearance between the window treatment and the mounting surface to clear obstructions such as moulding, window cranks, door handles, etc.
Hold down clips are mounted at the bottom of the window treatment and are used to hold the shade in place. This option is great for securing your treatment on doors or in windy locations.
