Which Smith & Noble Smart Shades products can I control with Alexa or Google Home?
Any Smith & Noble motorized window treatment connected to the Smith & Noble Smart Shades App via the Smart Hub can be controlled using Alexa or Google voice commands.
How many Smart Shades can I control with the app?
Once paired to the Smart Hub, the app can accommodate up to 32 motorized shades or groups of shades and an unlimited number of Scenes and Schedules.
What is a Smart Hub?
The Smart Hub enables use of the Smith & Noble Smart Shades App. The Smart Hub connects to a Wi-Fi router and communicates with Smith & Noble motorized shades and blinds. It allows control of your Smart Shades from anywhere in the world. A 2.4 GHz network is required.
What is the range of the Smart Hub?
Shades need to be placed within a range of 80 feet from the Smith & Noble Smart Hub. As with any wireless signal, the range can be longer or shorter depending on the conditions and environment such as the size of the house, number of stories and number of walls or obstructions.
How many Smart Hubs do I need?
For most homes, only one Smart Hub is needed. However, homes over 3,000 square feet and/or large multi-level homes may require additional hubs.
Can I control my Smart Shades with the Amazon or Google devices?
Yes! With the Smart Hub and app, Smith & Noble Smart Shades can be voice-controlled using Amazon Alexa and Google Home products, and you can even include the shades on your favorite Routines.
How much does the Smith & Noble Smart Shades App cost?
The app is a free download. However, a Smart Hub is required for the app to operate the shades.
Which mobile platforms and devices are compatible with the Smith & Noble Smart Shades App?
The Smart Shades App is available for Apple® iOS (running version 7.0 and newer) and Android™ mobile devices (running version 6 and newer).
Do I need a Wi-Fi connection to use the Smart Hub and App?
Yes. The Smith & Noble Smart hub requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Do I need an internet connection to set up the app to control my shades?
No, an internet connection is not necessary for initial set up. The app will connect to the Smart Hub using a 2.4 GHz wireless network. An internet connection is needed in order to operate the app from outside the home and to keep the time, date and firmware up to date.
What is the difference between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi frequencies?
The primary differences between the two frequencies are range (coverage) and bandwidth (speed). The 2.4 GHz band provides coverage at a longer range but transmits data at slower speeds. The 5 GHz band provides less coverage but transmits data at faster speeds. Most smart home devices utilize the 2.4 GHz band because it is better suited for longer ranges and transmission through walls and solid objects. 2.4 GHz is better if you need more range on your devices or you have a lot of walls or other objects in the areas where you need coverage.
Which Wi-Fi frequency do I need to pair the Smart Hub?
The Smith & Noble Smart hub requires a 2.4 GHz wireless frequency band because 2.4 GHz offers coverage for further distances than a 5 GHz frequency band. The Smart Hub cannot be set up on a 5 GHz frequency.
Will the Smart Hub work with my 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
The Smart Hub requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If your router is only set to 5 GHz band, you will need to add or set up a 2.4 GHz wireless band to your router in order use the Smart Hub. If you are unsure about how to do this, please contact your wireless router provider or refer to your router’s instruction manual. This will need to be done prior to beginning the hub set up process.
What if I have both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi available?
The Smart Hub requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If your Wi-Fi router is set up with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under the same name, the hub should connect automatically to the correct frequency. If the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands have different names, you will need to select the 2.4 GHz band in order to connect the hub.
Can I operate my Smart Shades from anywhere in the world using the Smith & Noble Smart Shades app on my Apple® or Android™ device?
Yes. You can adjust your motorized shades, blinds and drapery hardware from anywhere using the Smith & Noble Smart Shades App as long as your Smart Hub is connected to your home’s internet network.
What is a Scene?
A Scene is a combination of pre-programmed actions for your motorized shades, blinds and drapery hardware. Scenes allow you to customize a series of actions together to create an event and to easily adjust the lighting in your home throughout the day. Scenes can be controlled on the app or by voice control.
Will my Scenes and Schedules work even if my mobile device is not at home?
Yes. All pre-set Scenes and Schedules are stored in the Smart Hub. That means, your Scenes and Schedules will continue to operate your Smart Shades at the programmed time to the pre-set position even if the mobile device is not in the home.
Do Scenes and Schedules automatically change for Daylight Savings Time?
Yes. Scenes and Schedules will adjust for Daylight Savings Time automatically if the Smart Hub is connected to the internet and to the app. The internal clock in the Smart Hub will update to the current date and time.

Your privacy is very important to us. Information you provide in the Smith & Noble Smart Shades App is not used or disclosed without your consent. We do offer you the ability to integrate Smith & Noble Smart Shades with third party applications such as Google Home and Amazon Alexa. Do I need to use a surge protector with my Smart Hub?
Surge protectors defend against power or voltage spikes that could cause damage to your electronic devices and gadgets. You may want to use a surge protector to protect your Smart Hub if your home is subject to frequent power spikes, brownouts or blackouts.
